"Be patient when becoming someone you haven't been before." - Tanya Markul
Erica Penny, M.Ed., LCMHCA
Welcome! My name is Erica Penny and it is a privilege to be a part of your journey toward optimal wellness. I believe it is a lifelong journey to become our best selves and having the support of a counselor can make the journey feel more manageable.
I thoroughly enjoy working with children, adolescents, and adults. Becoming you is something we are all experiencing from age 8 to 88! As a child, we grow in becoming better friends and better students. As adolescents, we navigate the tumultuous years of our bodies changing, social structures changing, and finding our place in this world. As adults, we navigate adult relationships, parenthood, finances, working, retirement, and so much more. I look forward to being a support for you along this lifelong journey.
I received my bachelors' degree at James Madison University in French Education and Music Education. I then received my masters' degree at UNC-Chapel Hill in School Counseling. I have 17 years of counseling experience, three as a private therapist and 14 working with children as an elementary school counselor. I use a variety of Cognitive Behavioral, Solution-Focused, Strength-Based, Client-Centered, Play and Art Therapy techniques, depending on individual client needs. Please visit the Individual Appointments tab to pursue individual counseling.
In addition to individual mental health counseling, I also offer small therapy groups, book groups, mindfulness workshops, and parent coaching. Please see my current offerings under the Group Meetings tab. If there is a topic for group therapy, a book group or a workshop you would like to see offered, please reach out and let me know!
I look forward to meeting you!
